Former NFL edge rusher Lamarr Houston signed a one-day contract to retire as a member of the Las Vegas Raiders. He will be placed on the club’s reserve/retired List as a formality.
Houston was drafted by the Raiders out of Texas in the second round of the 2010 NFL Draft. He appeared in all 16 games that season (15 starts), recording 39 tackles, five sacks and one forced fumble en route to All-Rookie Team honors.
He went on to play three more seasons with the Raiders until his rookie contract expired. Over the course of his four-year stint, he accumulated 228 tackles, 16.5 sacks, five passes defended, four forced fumbles and one interception in 64 games (60 starts).
Houston became a free agent at the conclusion of the 2013 NFL season and cashed in on a lucrative five-year contract with the Chicago Bears. While his arrival came with plenty of fanfare, he mostly failed to live up to expectations.

While expectations were high in Chicago, Houston suited up in only eight games during his debut season with the Bears, missing half the season after tearing his ACL on a sack celebration against the New England Patriots.
He appeared in all 16 games the following year, registering 42 tackles, eight sacks and one fumble recovery. After that solid showing, Houston, unfortunately, tore his ACL again just two games into the 2016 NFL season.
After being placed on injured reserve and subsequently released by the Bears at the start of the 2017 season, he eventually latched on with the Houston Texans, appearing in five games before finding his way back to the Bears midseason.
Houston appeared in five additional games with Chicago in what marked the final season of his career. Across eight years in the NFL, Houston tallied 302 tackles, 76 quarterback hits and 30.5 sacks over 100 games (71 starts).
