The Los Angeles Rams put together their most complete effort of the season on Christmas Day as they blew out the Denver Broncos, 51-14, at SoFi Stadium.
Baker Mayfield had another encouraging performance, completing 24 of 28 passes for 230 yards and two touchdowns. Both of those scores were caught by Tyler Higbee, who hauled in nine of his 11 targets for 94 yards.
Higbee’s first touchdown put him in uncharted territory as he passed Damone Johnson for the most touchdowns by a Rams tight end in franchise history (19).
Higbee discussed the accomplishment after the game and noted he was just trying to help the Rams defeat the Broncos, via Stu Jackson of TheRams.com:
“Pretty cool. I was aware of a couple of them but not really my concern. Trying to win a football game, do what I can to help this team win.”
Higbee said he will reflect on his record-breaking catch after the season and is proud to be a member of the Rams:
“Not yet but I’m sure it will soon. I’ll get some time after the season, I’ll think about it. It’s special, I put a lot of hard work, battled through a lot of adversity, injuries, things like that. Being able to just play, special franchise, being able to hold that is pretty cool.”
In what has been a trying season for the Rams as a whole, Higbee continues to be a bright spot on the offense. After going 13 consecutive games without a touchdown, he has now recorded three in the last two weeks.
Higbee for the year has caught 65 of his 97 targets for 576 yards and three touchdowns in 15 games.
Cam Akers: Rams hoping to play spoiler in final games of regular season
With the Rams already mathematically eliminated from postseason contention, Cam Akers said the team is hoping to play spoiler in the final games of the regular season.
Akers also enjoyed his best game of the year against the Broncos, rushing 23 times for 118 yards and scoring three touchdowns. He additionally caught two passes for 29 yards.
