Tom Brady’s Minority Stake In Raiders Will Remain On Hold

The Las Vegas Raiders franchise needed a reboot after the past couple of seasons, and team owner Mark Davis made sure not to repeat the same mistakes.

Midway through the 2023 season, Davis fired former general manager Dave Zeigler and former head coach Josh McDaniels and replaced them with Tom Telesco and Antonio Pierce. Telesco and Pierce are now tasked with rejuvenating the Las Vegas organization, and the early returns have been promising.

Pierce managed to lead the Raiders to a 5-4 record as the interim head coach, while Telesco made a splash in free agency by signing Christian Wilkinson. The move was widely praised and a signal that the team is serious about competing in 2024.

Waiting in the wings to join the new regime is Tom Brady, who has been in talks to acquire a minority stake in the Raiders. However, it appears his bid will have to wait longer via Mark Maske of The Washington Post:

“NFL team owners are ‘unlikely to take a vote’ at next week’s annual league meeting to approve former NFLer Tom Brady’s bid to become a part owner of the Raiders. The prospective deal which would see Brady purchase a minority ownership stake “remains on hold, barring a last-minute change next week.”

Most expected Brady’s stake to be approved, but it appears that other owners have some pause due to his pending broadcasting gig with Fox:

“A source said that in addition, some owners ‘have concerns about conflicts of interest arising from Brady holding an ownership stake in the Raiders while serving as an analyst on broadcasts of NFL games for Fox.’ Brady’s discussions with the Raiders ‘have been taking place for at least 10 months’ and a source said that it ‘might be ‘about time to fish or cut bait.’”

What seemed like an inevitable occurrence for Las Vegas now hits an unexpected snag. It’s unclear at this time whether Brady will continue to pursue his stake in the Raiders, but for now, it’ll remain in limbo.

Charles Woodson’s life would be perfect if Raiders draft J.J. McCarthy

Although Brady might not get his minority ownership stake, the Raiders could be adding a quarterback to the organization in the 2024 NFL Draft. Charles Woodson said that it would be perfect if the team managed to draft Michigan’s J.J. McCarthy.
