Extending the Yankees’ scoring drought to three consecutive games. Kyle Hendricks delivered an efficient performance, allowing four hits and striking out nine over six innings to help secure the shutout. The Angels’ bullpen supported the effort with three hitless innings from Ryan Zeferjahn, Reid Detmers, and Hunter Strickland, marking the team’s first consecutive shutouts since August 2022.
Los Angeles generated all the offense it needed during the middle innings. Taylor Ward provided a key two-run single in the fourth inning, part of a string of four straight one-out hits. Luis Rengifo and Nolan Schanuel each contributed an RBI earlier in the game, helping the Angels build a 3-0 advantage by the end of the fourth.
The Yankees, currently amid a five-game losing streak, struggled at the plate. Despite adjustments made by manager Aaron Boone, including moving rookie Jasson Domínguez into the leadoff spot and dropping Paul Goldschmidt to sixth in the batting order, the results did not improve. New York failed to capitalize on multiple opportunities, going hitless in 10 at-bats with runners on base and advancing just three runners to second base throughout the game.
The offensive stagnation represents one of the worst stretches in recent franchise history. The Yankees have scored only five runs across their past six games, a low mark that the team has not matched since August 1968. They have now gone 29 consecutive innings without scoring, last pushing a run across the plate in the ninth inning of a 4-3 loss to the Boston Red Sox on Saturday. The team has not been shut out in four straight games at any point in its history, placing additional pressure on the lineup heading into the series finale.
Aaron Judge continued to experience difficulties at the plate. The Yankees’ captain went 0-for-4 with three strikeouts, bringing his line over the last five games to two hits in 19 at-bats with 12 strikeouts. His recent struggles drew audible frustration from the home crowd, particularly after his sixth and eighth-inning strikeouts.
On the mound for New York, right-hander Will Warren took the loss despite a career-high 11 strikeouts over six innings. He allowed three runs but retired the final 11 batters he faced. Ward’s two-run single off Jazz Chisholm Jr.’s glove provided the key blow during the decisive fourth inning.
The Yankees become the third team in Major League Baseball this season to suffer three consecutive shutouts, following similar streaks by the Cincinnati Reds in early April and the Colorado Rockies later that month. The last team to be shut out in four straight games was the Kansas City Royals in August 2017.
Looking ahead, New York will send left-hander Ryan Yarbrough (3-1, 3.96 ERA) to the mound on Wednesday in hopes of ending the scoreless streak. The Angels will counter with right-hander Jack Kochanowicz (3-8, 5.53 ERA) as they seek to complete the sweep. According to betting odds before Tuesday’s contest, the Yankees were slight favorites at -120, while the over/under was set at 8.5 runs. The under was readily cashed as Los Angeles kept New York off the scoreboard again.
