The Los Angeles Rams will soon begin their long journey to Australia ahead of facing the San Francisco 49ers on Thursday Night Football in Week 1 of the regular season.

The Rams’ 16-hour flight takes off on Tuesday night, and to help players and staff get used to being in the air for so long, head coach Sean McVay said the plane is equipped with full-sized beds.

“Full lay-out sleep beds. They’ve got full lay-out to beds, all of our players have that,” McVay said. “You guys love this trip thing, man. Yeah, it is cool. But it’s a big plane, everybody will be able to get fully extended and lay out and be able to get their rest.”

With the 49ers landing in Melbourne last week, some have questioned why the Rams decided to travel so late. McVay compared it to a normal game in the United States, when the team leaves L.A. on Friday night.

“I look at it as Friday evening. It’s Tuesday night for you guys, but it would be the equivalent of Friday evening,” McVay explained. “Sleep through the night and then we’ll get there and we have kind of a rhythm.”

The Rams seem to have mapped out their trip to Australia to everyone’s liking, and they will have roughly one day to acclimate to the new time zone before taking on the 49ers in what should be one of their most important matchups of the year.

Puka Nacua expected to play in Rams’ regular-season opener against 49ers

The Rams begin their regular-season schedule on Thursday with a Week 1 matchup against the San Francisco 49ers in Australia.

The Rams are heading into the matchup relatively healthy, but one question mark is Puka Nacua’s playing status. Not only has he been dealing with psoas soreness, but there is a chance he could be suspended by the NFL at some point for a previous off-the-field issue.

Despite those uncertainties, the Rams expect Nacua to suit up against the 49ers. The 25-year-old is entering a pivotal season as he looks to secure a long-term contract extension from the team.
