The Los Angeles Lakers have undergone a lot of organizational changes this offseason with the biggest obviously being Mark Walter selling his majority shares of the franchise to Josh Kushner and Bob Iger. The Lakers had only just begun incorporating Walter’s vision within the franchise, so to have to switch that so soon is something no one expected.
But despite the changes, those within the Lakers have had to continue pushing forward with business as usual and president of basketball operations Rob Pelinka has done just that this offseason. But he has already met with the new owners and is looking forward to what is to come.
“We have had introductory meetings with Bob and Josh, and those have been excellent,” Pelinka said during his recent press conference. “With a pending transaction, we’re not at liberty to talk more about that under league rules. But we’ve had preliminary discussions with them that have been really, really positive. In terms of day-to-day, nothing’s changed. We’re operating with Lakers excellence. We’re continuing to build out a world-class front office. Proud of the people we’ve added, incredibly proud of the energy we’ve had upstairs.”
Since the NBA Board of Governors has not yet voted on the sale to Kushner and Iger, they aren’t officially the Lakers’ owners yet, hence why Pelinka can’t say too much right now. But that is more or less just a formality and there should be nothing standing in the way of that being approved.
What is most important is that Pelinka is on the same page as Kushner and Iger in terms of their vision for the franchise and what needs to be done to ensure success going forward. Organizations need to be in lock step from the top down in order to win consistently at the highest level and constant change at the top can make that difficult.
The Lakers have done well in building out their front office staff this summer and putting the pieces in place to operate this franchise at the highest level and as long as everyone has that same vision going forward, it should bode well for everyone.

Pelinka and the Lakers were extremely busy this offseason which began with news that LeBron James wouldn’t be returning to the team. And once that news came out, the Lakers had three goals they wanted to accomplish this summer and Pelinka believes they did just that.
