Reds Pitcher Trevor Bauer Organized Sandlot Game While MLB Season Is On Hold; Donating Money To Stadium Workers

3 Min Read

The 2020 Major League Baseball season is currently on hold due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak that is sweeping across the globe and was declared a pandemic by the World Health Organization.

While the hope is that the season will be able to get started sooner rather than later, there really is no telling how long it will take for the country to get the coronavirus under control to the point where sporting events can be resumed.

In the meantime, MLB has suspended all Spring Training action and players have the option to stay in Arizona or Florida, head to their respective home towns, or to the city where their team plays.

The season may not begin until May at the earliest, but players still have the responsibility to stay in shape whether it be with their teammates or on their own.

Cincinnati Reds pitcher Trevor Bauer is taking it upon himself to help with that as he announced he organized a “Sandlot” game for MLB players that were interested and streamed it online for fans to enjoy.

Additionally, Bauer has started a GoFundMe page to pay stadium workers that are currently out of work due to the coronavirus pandemic:

In conjunction with @Watch_Momentum, we’re excited to bring you our friendly rendition of #TheSandlot

We’ve started a GoFundMe to help support stadium workers displaced by our season postponement. Please join us and consider donating: https://t.co/DyEKdvwtpW

Perhaps no player has done more to expand the game of baseball in recent years than Bauer, and this is yet another example of that.

It’s unknown is any Los Angeles Dodgers players will be taking place in the event, although if it takes place in Arizona then some will likely want to get involved.

While there’s no telling how long this hiatus will last, it is good to see players are making the most of their time and keeping people with bigger needs in mind.
