The Los Angeles Rams welcomed the Seattle Seahawks to town on Sunday Night Football in Week 14 looking not only to avenge their previous loss to their division rivals, but needing a win to keep pace in the NFC playoff picture.
The Rams put up perhaps their best performance of the season when they needed it most, coming away with a 28-12 victory over the Seahawks to improve to 8-5.
Seattle got the ball first and put a solid drive together, although Samson Ebukam sacked Russell Wilson on third down to force a field goal.
Los Angeles quickly answered though with a eight-play, 75-yard touchdown drive to take an early 7-3 lead. Jared Goff made some quality throws to Robert Woods on the drive, and Malcolm Brown capped it off with a 1-yard run for the score.
While the Rams defense settled in from there and held the Seahawks to three points in the first half, their offense continued to roll. Two more touchdowns drives capped off with throws from Goff to Woods and Cooper Kupp, respectively, gave Los Angeles a 21-3 lead going into the halftime locker room.
The Rams got the ball first in the second half and had a chance to put the game away early. Instead, Goff made perhaps his worst throw all night and the result was an interception returned for a touchdown by Quandre Diggs to cut the lead to 21-9.
Goff was then picked off again on the ensuing drive, but the Rams defense continued to carry them by putting pressure on Wilson and forcing some poor throws.
The Rams offense essentially needed just one more touchdown drive to put the game away, and they got exactly that early in the fourth quarter. Goff got back on track after the interceptions and found Woods and Tyler Higbee seemingly wide open every time. Todd Gurley capped the drive off with a beautiful stiff arm that led to a 9-yard touchdown, extending the lead to 28-9.
Seattle responded with a field goal to make it a two-score game at 28-12, but that was as close as it would get As Troy Hill picked off Wilson on the final drive to seal the victory.
Goff finished with a solid overall night, completing 22 of 31 passes for 293 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions. Higbee had his second straight career receiving day, hauling in seven receptions for 116 yards while Gurley contributed 23 carries for 79 yards and a touchdown with four receptions for 34 yards.
