The Los Angeles Dodgers opened their series against the Chicago White Sox with a bit of a pitcher’s duel, and came away with a 3-0 shutout victory.
James Paxton and Garrett Crochet were locked in for the first five innings, keeping both offenses off the board.
Paxton gave up just three hits over his five innings of work, striking out six and walking three without allowing a run before he was removed from the game with 91 pitches thrown.
Crochet pitched slightly deeper into the game, going 5.2 innings while allowing five hits and no walks, adding six strikeouts.
The White Sox turned it over to Steven Wilson, who finished off the sixth inning, but fell apart in the seventh.
Miguel Rojas doubled to start the seventh, and with one out, Kiké Hernández doubled to drive home the go-ahead run. Chris Taylor then reached on a throwing error, which also allowed Hernández to score, giving the Dodgers a 2-0 lead.
Chris Taylor singled to start the ninth before moving over to third base and scoring as the result of a sacrifice fly from Shohei Ohtani.
After Paxton came out of the game, Daniel Hudson, Yohan Ramírez, Evan Phillips and Alex Vesia pitched the final four innings. Phillips was used in the eighth to face the heart of the White Sox’ lineup, while Vesia recorded the save.
With the win, the Dodgers are now 23-0 when Rojas has at least one hit in a game.
Teoscar Hernández away from Dodgers
Teoscar Hernández has started in all 79 of the Dodgers’ games this season, but he was not in the Dodgers’ lineup for their series opener.
There was concern around Hernandez not being in the lineup due to the team having an off-day on Sunday, and a left-hander in Garrett Crochet is on the mound.
The good news for the Dodgers is Hernández is not expected to be out of the lineup for long. Dodgers manager Dave Roberts shared Hernández was out of the lineup due to a personal reason, and he is currently away from the club but expected back on Tuesday.
