Rams News: With Training Camp Beginning, Jared Goff Still Not Focused On Contract Extension

The collective goal for the Los Angeles Rams in the 2019 NFL season has been and will be the Super Bowl. After a disappointing postseason in 2018, the team has done all they can to ensure that 2019 ends differently.

For quarterback Jared Goff, he too has been focused on improving his game and working as a team to get back to the Super Bowl. That means setting aside personal goals and opportunities such as his inevitable contract extension.

According to Vincent Bonsignore of The Athletic, Goff will wait until the time is right to handle his contract extension:

“Time will take care of it,” he said, simply.

And with that, the leader of the Rams kept the season and the focus tightly and securely on track.

“Just go out and play,” he added.

Goff is the last of the Rams key young players to receive an extension. Both running back Todd Gurley and defensive tackle Aaron Donald signed theirs last offseason. Donald infamously skipped the last two offseasons due to contract issues, but returned to camp this year.

The Rams exercised Goff’s team option for next season, so they still have time to work on getting him the extension he has earned. Rams COO Kevin Demoff made it clear that Goff is a player the Rams intend to keep for as long as they can. It will be interesting to see how the next few years shape up for the Rams as most of their money will be tied up amongst three players.

Goff has been a consistently present figure during the Rams offseason workouts. He recently stated that he looked forward to getting back on the field after a disheartening loss to the New England Patriots in Super Bowl LIII.

With Goff working hard and another offseason with largely the same core of offensive players, the hope if that the Rams will once again have one of the best offenses in the league. Goff getting one of his favorite targets in Cooper Kupp back should also help that.

Kupp tore his ACL last season, but was on his way to being one of the Rams best receivers. He grabbed 40 passes and converted six touchdowns in his eight games last season.
