The NFL crowned a new champion as the Kansas City Chiefs were the victors of an exciting Super Bowl LVII matchup against the Philadelphia Eagles.

Watching the Chiefs hoist the trophy officially ended the Los Angeles Rams’ reign as Super Bowl champions. Unlike Kansas City, Los Angeles’ 2022 season was marred by injuries and inconsistency, though no one can feel bad for a franchise that was just recently at the top of the league.

Super Bowl LVI feels like a lifetime ago, though the Rams will surely never forget the run they made last year. It was memorable on several fronts, but one underrated moment involved Van Jefferson who not only won his first championship but got to celebrate the birth of his son immediately after.

Jefferson reflected on the day now that a year has passed, via Stu Jackson of TheRams.com:

“It was special, man, just knowing the way that he was born and the day he was born on, and to win that day, too,” Van told theRams.com. “We celebrated him like a true Super Bowl baby, so it was cool.”

The wideout appropriately named his son “Champ” and expressed how grateful he is to have had such life-changing events happen on the same day:

“That day ranks – I mean, definitely the best day of my life, right?” Van said. “To win a Super Bowl and have a child on the same day, it’s a special moment. There was a couple players – no, just one player had another baby on Super Bowl day, so I guess it’s a theme now. So it was just awesome to experience that moment with my family, and definitely experience it for more years to come, especially with Champ, and once he gets older and learns what happened and how he was brought into this world.

“It was just great, man. I’m just so thankful for it and blessed for the opportunity, obviously to get the win, but to obviously have a son.”

It must’ve been surreal for Jefferson to be celebrating a title one second and having to shift gears and rush to a nearby hospital to welcome another child to the world. A year later, Jefferson was able to celebrate his son’s first birthday with family and current and former teammates like Allen Robinson and Robert Woods.

Heartwarming family moments like that should never be taken for granted, and for Jefferson, Feb. 13 will always be a special day.
