The Los Angeles Rams have had some difficulty trying to contain the run so far in the 2020 NFL season and it plagued them during the disappointing loss to the San Francisco 49ers in Week 6.

Although the Rams did not make very many moves this offseason, they did shore up some quality depth along the defensive line with the addition of A’Shawn Robinson. Unfortunately, his stint with the team has gotten off to a rocky start after missing all of training camp and starting the season on the Non-Football Injury List with a cardiovascular issue.

L.A. has been unable to provide much clarity on a potential timeline for Robinson’s return up to this point. Fortunately, it seems he has made some strides in his recovery.

Head coach Sean McVay said on The Coach McVay Show that he expects Robinson to be back in the mix in the coming weeks:

“He has been doing a great job, getting a lot of work in with Coach Lovett and being on a strict regimen,” he said. “Now we’re looking forward to getting him back practicing this week and hopefully in the near future, maybe in the next couple weeks, we’ll be able to see him actually participate and play on game day. And we’ll obviously have to get him up and active for that, but it’ll be good to get him back practicing this week.”

The Rams officially designated Robinson to return, so he now can practice with the team and can be activated at any point in the next 21 days.

The prospect of Robinson being able to make his debut in the near future is certainly an intriguing one for the Rams. While they may already boast plenty of talent up front, his versatility as an interior piece and on the edge should make him an integral piece early on.

Since Robinson was placed on the Non-Football Injury List to begin the 2020 campaign, he is eligible to return in for the Monday Night Football showdown in Week 7. However, McVay’s update indicates that he still needs a few weeks of recovery to get back to full health. The Rams have a bye in Week 9 which means the team is like targeting Week 10 against the Seattle Seahawks as an ideal date for his comeback.

Despite the update on Robinson’s return, L.A. is still going to need to figure out a way to kick things up a notch in the run game. They have two games to get back on track before they enter perhaps their most difficult stretch of the season.
