Rams News: Les Snead Says Contract Extension For Jared Goff Is ‘Not A Matter Of If, It’s Just When’

The Los Angeles Rams have been rich with assets for the last few seasons. Between Aaron Donald, Todd Gurley and Jared Goff, the future is certainly bright.

However, that future will come at a price. Each player demands gravity on the field and therefore will have a bigger paycheck, and rightfully so.

Donald received one of the biggest contracts in NFL history last season and Gurley received a considerable 4-year, $60 million extension last offseason as well.

That leaves Goff as the last of the Rams stars that is due for a payday. According to general manager Les Snead, there is no doubt in his mind that pay day is going to come sooner or later:

Les Snead said “it’s not a matter of if, it’s just when” they are able to agree to a long-term contract extension with Jared Goff.

Snead and head coach Sean McVay both had their contracts extended on Friday morning, so it seems that the team’s vision will largely remain the same as much of their personnel is remaining the same.

In line with that vision, the Rams picked up the fifth-year option on Goff’s rookie contract at the start of this offseason. With the Rams focus largely on this season and getting back to the Super Bowl, a new contract for their star quarterback may be on the backburner for now. Goff has already stated that he is not worried about a contract and that it will happen when the time is right.

That attitude must have led to a sigh of relief for the Rams front office. The last two seasons before Donald received his contract he decided not to participate in the Rams’ offseason workouts.

Gurley’s contract will likely be the biggest question mark for the team. It is a relatively cheap payday compared to what the Rams will likely offer Goff and much cheaper than Donald’s six years, $134 million deal. Of course, their health is much less of a concern when compared to Gurley’s.

Each of the last two seasons under McVay, the Rams have one of the best offenses in the league and Goff has put up Pro Bowl seasons. So whenever he does get his payday, it will likely be a big one.
