Rams News: Les Snead Not Offering Insight Into Contract Negotiations With Jalen Ramsey

Originally published by RamsNewswire.com

It’s no secret the Los Angeles Rams are strapped for cap space after they signed a number of players to lucrative extensions in recent years, already cutting ties with a pair of them in Todd Gurley and Brandin Cooks.

The Rams have a few more quality players with extensions of their own coming up soon though, chief among them being cornerback Jalen Ramsey.

L.A. gave up a pair of first-round picks to acquire Jalen Ramsey from the Jacksonville Jaguars in the middle of last season. They made the trade knowing he was due to get paid soon, although to this point, the two sides have yet to come to terms on an extension.

Both sides seem to be on the same page though as general manager Les Snead and Sean McVay have both discussed how much they value Ramsey this offseason, while the three-time Pro Bowler has also said that he won’t hold out of training camp if he doesn’t have an extension.

Now that training camp is getting underway, the topic of Ramsey’s extension has been brought up again, although Snead wouldn’t give many details of negotiations, via Steve Wyche of NFL Network:

On Jalen Ramsey contract talks, Rams GM Les Snead: “We’ll keep the intimacy of those details in house.” Then adds: “We gave up two first rounders to bring in that caliber of player.” Translation: At some point it will get done. Rams recently have done deals before the reg season.

The Rams have never been afraid to take care of their own players, so it seems like just a matter of time before Ramsey gets the lucrative contract that he has earned.

With some of the other deals they have handed out not panning out though, it makes sense for the Rams to take their time with Ramsey. They also have other players such as Cooper Kupp and John Johnson III who they would like to keep as well, so it will be a challenge for Snead to make all of that happen, especially if the salary cap drops due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
