Rams News: Jared Goff & Roberts Woods Both Praise 49ers Cornerback Richard Sherman For Being ‘Smart’

The Los Angeles Rams have one of the most loaded offensive rosters in the NFL, including their incredible group of wide receivers that have earned them the second-most receiving yards this season and they do not seem to be slowing down any time soon.

However, the receivers and quarterback Jared Goff will be tested on Sunday when the Rams take on the undefeated San Francisco 49ers and star cornerback Richard Sherman. The veteran has been one of the best defenders in the NFL since he was drafted by the Seattle Seahawks out of Stanford in 2011, so should present the Rams with some tough challenges.

Since being drafted in 2011, Sherman has led the league in interceptions with 34. According to Stu Jackson of theRams.com, Goff attributes Sherman’s success to his mental capactiy:

“He’s just so smart,” Rams QB Jared Goff said. “He’s a really smart player. He’s had the issue with the achilles in the past, and I think right now you see him fully healthy, doing his thing.”

Sherman has been able to disrupt the most successful offenses throughout his career so the Rams will have their work cut out for them. His success is part of an entire 49ers roster that has become the NFL’s best defense. They have allowed only 703 passing yards through five games, only 140 per-game average. On the other hand, the Rams have been averaging 317 passing yards per game.

Robert Woods further complimented Sherman’s work, knowing that it will be tough to beat him from the jump:

“Smart corner, knows his coverage, knows his leverage, plays it well,” Rams WR Robert Woods said. “Doesn’t get beat deep. Keeps everything in front of him. Attacks the ball when he can. Really, (he) just does his job, does his job pretty well.”

If the Rams cannot find success in the air, hopefully, they can turn to Todd Gurley on the ground. Thus far this season, Gurley has not been producing as many have expected him too. The game with the 49ers could be an important milestone for Gurley this season if he is able to play.

Aside from that, this matchup will be very telling for the rest of the Rams season. After dropping the last two games, a win against the undefeated 49ers could be just the boost the team needs. It, of course, will not be easy on either side of the ball, but Los Angeles has a golden opportunity to show that they are still the best team in the division this Sunday.
