Rams News: Jared Goff Calls Community Participating In California Strong Celebrity Softball Game ‘Amazing’

Los Angeles Rams quarterback Jared Goff was among the notable professional athletes and celebrities to take part in the second annual California Strong Celebrity Softball Game this past Sunday at Pepperdine.

The group was formed by Goff along with baseball stars Christian Yelich, Ryan Braun and Mike Moustakas in response to the wildfires and a mass shooting that took place in the greater Los Angeles area in 2018. They have dedicated their mission to providing relief to those that have been affected by these tragedies along with any future victims.

Goff has one of the most high-profile jobs in all of sports as the starting quarterback in a major media market like Los Angeles. While there are certainly some drawbacks that come with the gig, it does allow him to bring attention to more serious issues.

Goff is happy that he can use his platform to help raise awareness for such a great cause. “It’s amazing, you just see the community come together over the last couple of years being a part of this,” Goff said at the event.

“For us, to be able to use our platform in this way, it’s thanks to all you guys coming out here today putting your hard-earned money into this and I can’t wait for it to continue to help people for years to come.”

While each of the founding members is a California native, Goff is the one that remains closest to home playing for the Rams. He got to witness firsthand the day-to-day impact that these tragedies had on the community while in the midst of a Super Bowl run.

It is safe to say that Goff has certainly done his part to help turn this event into a star-studded affair. This year’s game featured names such as Cody Bellinger, Jamie Foxx and Patrick Dempsey, among many others.

Rams fans may have been surprised to see a lefty Goff get some solid batting practice in prior to the game. Unfortunately, he struggled to make the transition from the gridiron to the baseball diamond after going 0-for-2 on the day.

Although Goff may be in a bit of a slump, he is rather optimistic about a potential resurgence in the 2020 NFL season. Regardless, his efforts both on and off the field are further proof of why the Rams made him their franchise quarterback.
