Rams News: Jalen Ramsey Not Concerned With Signing Contract Extension

3 Min Read

After losing three straight games, the Los Angeles Rams made some drastic changes to their roster this week, with the big move being acquiring All-Pro cornerback Jalen Ramsey from the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Ramsey made it clear a few weeks ago that he wanted to be traded after getting into a dispute with the Jaguars’ coaching staff and management, and while it took longer than he had hoped, he eventually got his wish.

While Ramsey is only under contract through the 2020 season, it became pretty clear when the Rams gave up two first-round picks and a fourth-rounder to acquire him that they plan on keeping him around long-term.

There has been no agreement on an extension yet, but general manager Les Snead said after acquiring Ramsey that they will discuss that in the future.

Ramsey, who showed up to training camp this year in a Brinks truck, said he is not focused on an extension right now, via Lindsey Thiry of ESPN:

“I’m not really worried about it,” Ramsey said. “To be honest, I’ve kind of said that a lot, but I don’t think people really believed me. I’m not worried about it; it will happen in due time. I have full confidence in myself and my abilities. I think I will continue to be the best corner in the league for years and years and years to come.”

Head coach Sean McVay expressed his excitement to add Ramsey to a defensive core that already includes Aaron Donald, Eric Weddle, Clay Matthews, Dante Fowler Jr. and Cory Littleton.

Despite Ramsey’s big personality, McVay does not believe he will have a problem fitting in, and Ramsey agreed with that sentiment:

“You’re all just going to have to see the type of swag, I guess. I think for the most part, a lot of people know who I am as a player on the field, not a lot of people know who I am off the field. Over me being here, my career being here, you all will learn who I am more and learn my personality a little bit, and see the guy I am. Yeah, I’m very confident. I love the game of football. I love to have fun.”

McVay said the goal is for Ramsey to get on the field as soon as this weekend against the Atlanta Falcons, which is certainly good news for a Rams team that is looking to get back on track.
