There weren’t a lot of positives to take away from the Los Angeles Rams loss on Sunday to the Dallas Cowboys, but cornerback Jalen Ramsey did record a personal milestone. On the first drive of the second half, Ramsey sacked Cowboys quarterback Cooper Rush for the first sack of his NFL career.
Long considered one of, if not the best cover cornerback in the entire league, Ramsey simply doesn’t blitz too often as his coverage skills are far more important. But he clearly took a ton of joy in getting to the quarterback for the first time. And of course, the teammate most excited for him was Aaron Donald.
The Rams posted the video of Ramsey’s first sack on Twitter, which also included Donald immediately celebrating with Ramsey. The Rams corner would retweet the video, joking that he is on his way to catching Donald himself:
Only 100+ to go to catch up @AaronDonald97 https://t.co/cckeffG2sZ

Perhaps Ramsey has found his new calling in the NFL and is ready to put on some weight and rush the passer permanently. Even still, catching the league’s premier defensive lineman and one of the best defensive players in NFL history is unlikely as Donald has just been so dominant and continues to do so today, with four sacks through the Rams first five games this season.
It was great to see the interaction between Ramsey and Donald. The first thing Donald says to his teammate is to confirm that it is his first sack of Ramsey’s career. And you can hear the excitement in Ramsey’s voice proclaiming ‘I got him big bro!’ which just shows the relationship these two share.
What might be more feasible for Ramsey is perhaps catching the record by defensive backs for sacks in a season or career, but even those are big reaches. Jamal Adams set the record for sacks in a season by a defensive back with 9.5 in 2020, while Rodney Harrison has the record for a career with 30.5 sacks.
But if Ramsey sets his mind to it, and gets some more tips from Donald, perhaps he can gain some ground.
