The 2022 season was a forgettable one for the Los Angeles Rams, who outright missed the playoffs for just the second time under head coach Sean McVay.
The Rams had horrible injury luck that no team could’ve overcome, losing several key players in the second half of the season that doomed any hopes of making a postseason run. Chief among them was Cooper Kupp, who suffered a high-ankle sprain in a loss to the Arizona Cardinals that ultimately ended his season.
Kupp underwent surgery to repair his ankle and the star wideout said that he is on track in his rehab process, via Jourdan Rodrigue of The Athletic:
Receiver Cooper Kupp said he’s on track with his rehab after undergoing the tightrope procedure for a high ankle sprain he suffered in mid-November.
“I think the trainers … all feel good about where we’re at,” he said. “I feel like we’re making good time on things, and at the end of the day, I just want to be able to get to that place here so that I can get back to training and doing the football stuff again that I love.”
Players can normally return from a high ankle sprain after multiple weeks without a procedure, but Kupp opted for surgery in order to make sure he fully recovered from it without any lingering issues:
“The options are either don’t do anything or get it fixed,” he said. “At the end of the day, I think the best thing as a player seems to be that if you aren’t able to get it fixed, things can kind of linger. … I think that was the right decision for me. I don’t think I had any other option but to get it fixed.”
It’s obviously great news to hear that Kupp suffered no setbacks in rehab and should be 100 percent healthy by the time OTAs roll around. Without Kupp, the Rams offense predictably struggled and even more so after Matthew Stafford was declared out as he was dealing with a spinal contusion.
Los Angeles has a lot of work to do to prove to the rest of the league that they still belong in the elite tier of teams, though getting their star wideout back is a strong start. It’s going to be a busy offseason for the Rams who are expected to make several changes across the organization, but Kupp is a constant that should be ready to go for 2023.
