Rams News: Brandon Staley Impressed With Jordan Fuller So Far During Meetings

The Los Angeles Rams roster underwent a ton of changes this offseason, meaning they will be relying on some young players to make an impact in 2020 if they want to get back to the postseason.

The Rams didn’t have a first-round pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, but they did have two second-rounders and two third-rounders in addition to a number of late-round picks, giving them an opportunity to find some potential steals.

One of the players they took was safety Jordan Fuller out of Ohio State in the sixth round. Fuller has a very decorated college career as one of just 14 two-time captains in Ohio State’s history, making him one of the best value picks in the draft as someone who can potentially come in and contribute right away.

L.A. already has two young starting safeties in John Johnson III and Taylor Rapp, although with Eric Weddle choosing to retire, they lack depth at the position.

The hope is that Fuller will be able to provide that, and he has already been impressing new defensive coordinator Brandon Staley during team meetings, via Stu Jackson of TheRams.com:

“Two-time captain at Ohio State. I mean, you’re talking about the premiere program in the country, two-time captain and he’s only one of 14 guys that’s ever been that. (Former Ohio State co-defensive coordinator) Jeff Hafley, we have a good relationship with him and he’s just been raving about this guy. He’s proven that so far in these meetings. We’re excited to work with him.”

Fuller moved all around the field in his last season at Ohio State, recording 62 tackles, two interceptions and four pass breakups in 14 starts en route to earning first-team All-Big Ten honors.

As a sixth-round pick, expectations will not be too high for Fuller his rookie season, although if he can contribute in a backup role and on special teams then the Rams will be very happy with that.
