Bobby Wagner took no time in asserting himself as a member of the Los Angeles Rams as he’s taken command of the defense and helped them to a 2-1 start during the 2022 season.
A key fixture of the Seattle Seahawks’ dominant defensive units, Wagner has brought that leadership and experience to the Rams, who have held up well despite key injuries across the roster. While Los Angeles should be happy with their start, they get a stiff test in Week 4 when they take on their bitter rivals the San Francisco 49ers.
Wagner is no stranger to the 49ers as he had his fair share of battles with them during his time with the Seahawks, and he broke down what it might be like to defend them now that he’s with the Rams, via John Dillon of USA Today:
“Yeah… our schemes are a little bit different so I feel like we got a lot more boots and play actions than the Rams did,” He explained of what he has seen that contrasts with the 49er’s game plans against Seattle. “But they’re going to move their star players around. They got guys that can move around all positions, obviously going to get (San Francisco 49ers WR) Deebo (Samuel) the ball. So I think it’s the same team. Just got to come out and stop the run and get after him in the pass.”
Deebo Samuel in particular has been a killer for the Rams as his usage either out wide or in the backfield has caused issues in the past. There are also players like George Kittle and Brandon Aiyuk who are dangerous with the ball in their hands, so Los Angeles will need to find ways to contain San Francisco’s main offensive threats.
The winner of the game will have the early advantage when it comes to winning the NFC West, and it’s imperative that the Rams come out and make a statement on Monday Night Football.
