Rams Injury News: Jalen Ramsey Dealing With LCL Injury But Still Being Evaluated

The Los Angeles Rams saw their playoff hopes destroyed by the San Francisco 49ers in Week 16, falling to 8-7 on the season.

Unlike last season when they were able to stay relatively healthy en route to reaching the Super Bowl, the Rams were absolutely decimated by injuries this season, which is a big reason they took a step back.

That injury trend continued in the loss to the 49ers when Pro Bowl cornerback Jalen Ramsey went down with a knee injury. He was originally listed as doubtful to return, but he wound up coming back and toughing his way through the second half of the game despite being in obvious pain.

Rams head coach Sean McVay gave an update on Ramsey at Sunday’s practice, confirming that it is an LCL injury but he is still being evaluated to determine the severity, via Stu Jackson of TheRams.com:

Cornerback Jalen Ramsey’s knee injury, meanwhile, is still being evaluated. McVay said it was an LCL and that more information would be available later in the week.

This injury is obviously an unfortunate break as Ramsey was just beginning to grasp the Rams’ defense, coming up with his first interception with the team before going down with the injury.

Considering the Rams don’t have anything to play for in Week 17 when they host the Arizona Cardinals, it would be very surprising to see Ramsey on the field. He could be in for a big contract extension this offseason, so it doesn’t make any sense for him or the Rams to risk further injury going into the offseason.

Additionally, this may give the Rams an opportunity to get a look at some of their younger players as they begin to make roster decisions for next season.
