Rams Injury News: Eric Weddle ‘Feeling Good’ But Continuing To Go Through Concussion Protocol

The Los Angeles Rams began their 2019-20 NFL season on a high note, hanging on for a big 30-27 road victory over the Carolina Panthers on Sunday afternoon.

The win came despite the Rams missing one of their key contributors on defense for most of the game as veteran safety Eric Weddle left in the second quarter with a head laceration and was forced to enter the NFL’s concussion protocol.

Weddle was one of the Rams’ big acquisition and is expected to be a key contributor on defense this season as their signal-caller. He took a knee to the head from Panthers running back Christian McCaffrey though and was visibly bleeding, forcing him to be carted off the field.

Despite missing the rest of the game, Weddle revealed afterward that he was feeling good and didn’t expect to miss too much time. A day later, it appears that is still the case.

Rams head coach Sean McVay announced after Monday’s practice that Weddle is still feeling good and is continuing to go through the concussion protocol:

Update on Weddle from McVay: “He was feeling good today. He’s gotta go through the standard operating procedure as far as the concussion protocol but didn’t have any symptoms today.” pic.twitter.com/w1ceaSZmLg

This is obviously good news for the Rams as they have a big Week 2 matchup at home against the New Orleans Saints this Sunday afternoon in what is an NFC Championship Game rematch.

Weddle waa not involved in that matchup last year as a member of the Baltimore Ravens, but it will definitely be a game that he and the Rams want to win to prove that last’s years game was no fluke.

Weddle has not cleared the concussion protocol yet but the way things are trending, there is a good chance he will before Sunday. If he is unable to though, rookie safety Taylor Rapp and Marqui Christian would see extended playing time.
