Rams Earn Victory Over Saints Without Drew Brees In NFC Championship Game Rematch

The Los Angeles Rams welcomed the New Orleans Saints to town on Sunday afternoon for what was a rematch of last year’s NFC Championship Game.

Unfortunately for the Saints, they were not able to get their revenge on the team that cost them a trip to the Super Bowl as Drew Brees went down with a thumb injury in the first quarter and the Rams went on to cruise to a 27-9 victory to move to 2-0 on the season.

Neither offense was able to get going in the first half as Jared Goff looked out of sync and Teddy Bridgewater looked like a backup quarterback. The result was a 6-3 halftime lead for the Rams as the Saints were costed points on a big miscall by the referees.

Goff was sacked and fumbled late in the second quarter. While the Saints picked it up and returned it for a touchdown, the play was originally ruled dead as Goff was called for an incomplete pass. A replay review turned it over to a fumble, but the Saints didn’t get any points out of it as the return did not count.

The second half was all Rams though as they outscored the Saints 21-6 after Goff and the offense finally found their form.

Rams star running back Todd Gurley found paydirt for the first time this season with a third-quarter touchdown. He finished the game with 16 carries for 63 yards and a touchdown to go along with three receptions for four yards.

The big plays of the game were made through the air though as Goff finished 19-for-28 with 283 yards and a touchdown. Included in that was a short touchdown pass to Brandin Cooks and a long 66-yard catch and run to Cooper Kupp late in the fourth quarter.

Goff then took in the final touchdown with one yard out with his legs to secure the victory for Los Angeles.
