The Los Angeles Chargers announced that they will host a joint practice with the Los Angeles Rams during training camp on Aug. 4. Tickets will be exclusive to Chargers season ticket holders, however.

This means that the Rams will be having joint training camp practices with all three of their preseason opponents. The Rams will also host the Dallas Cowboys for a practice before their preseason opener and then will take part in one in Houston with the Texans before the preseason finale.

The session with the Cowboys is scheduled for Aug. 8 while the one in Houston is on Aug. 22. Both of those teams should be competitive in 2024 so it will be a good test for the Rams.

Joint practices have become a lot more common in recent years, especially as teams continue to play less of their key players during preseason games. The practices allow starters to get valuable reps in a controlled environment where quarterbacks aren’t getting hit and coaches can put guys in different scenarios they want to see.

The one downside to joint practices is there are often fights, and that has been the case with the Rams in recent years. Despite that though, head coach Sean McVay still believes the sessions can be valuable so will continue to do them moving forward.

This joint practice with the Chargers should be an interesting one as they have a new-look staff led by head coach John Harbaugh. Both organizations put an emphasis on shoring up the trenches this offseason, which should make for a physical practice on Aug. 4.

Chargers training camp will be in El Segundo, so the Rams will not have to travel far with theirs taking place at Loyola Marymount just down the road.

Rams’ Blake Corum discusses difference between Sean McVay and Jim Harbaugh

The joint practice with the Chargers should be an interesting one for Rams rookie Blake Corum as one the other side of the field will be his former college coach Jim Harbaugh.

After getting to know Sean McVay during OTAs, Corum discussed how different he is than Harbaugh.

“Total opposites,” Corum said. “Total opposites in terms of personality. think they’re both great coaches, but they’re definitely total opposites. But I love Coach McVay’s energy. He’s positive, he’s consistent, he’s bringing the energy each and every day. Growth mindset, even as one of the greatest coaches in the NFL at this point. I love playing for him. I’m excited to strap up and actually play for him, but I love going through these OTAs and playing for Coach McVay.”
