Rams Bringing In Veteran Brett Maher To Handle Kicking Duties

The Los Angeles Rams are putting the finishing touches on the roster that will begin their 2023 campaign, and one of the final stages of that was landing a kicker. And in veteran Brett Maher, the Rams reportedly appear to have found their man.

Maher, 33, got a late start to his NFL journey. He was signed a free agent by the Cleveland Browns in 2017, but did not kick in an NFL regular season game until 2018 when he was with the Dallas Cowboys. That season, he went 29-for-36, including 6-for-7 from beyond 50 yards. He hit a 62-yard field goal that season and made all but one extra point attempt.

Since then, he has played two more seasons with the Cowboys — 2019 and 2022 — while spending half of the 2021 season with the New Orleans Saints. He has had some inconsistency, but has shown the ability to be a starting caliber kicker.

Now, he’ll have the chance to do that with the Rams, as they are reportedly finalizing a deal to bring Maher into the fold, according to Tom Pelissero of NFL Network:

At this point, Maher figures to be the Week 1 starter, as the Rams do not appear to have another kicker on the roster. He comes from spending training camp with the Denver Broncos, who the Rams played in the final week of the preseason.

If Maher can replicate some of the success he had in Dallas, he could find himself playing a major role for a Rams team that figures to be a stronger offense than defense. He did struggle last season though, notably missing five extra points in a postseason game so hopefully he is able to put that behind him.

Tremayne Anchrum Believes Rams Offensive Line Will Be ‘Best It’s Ever Been’ In 2023

Rams offensive lineman Tremayne Anchrum spoke about the team’s quarterback protection unit and his thoughts on what the group can accomplish in 2023. He has lofty goals and believes it could be one of the best offensive lines in recent Rams history when it’s all said and done.

“This offensive line is going to be the best it’s ever been. I believe that wholeheartedly,” the Rams 2022 nominee for Walter Payton Man of the Year said.

“In the offensive line room, this year, we’re like ‘You’ve got to prove it.’

“If you’re the best, I don’t care what you’ve done two, three, four years ago. If you’re the best, show me. That’s competition all across the line. And I love that.”
