The Oakland Raiders may be in the midst of a rebuilding process, but it is going quicker than expected as a lot of the young players are producing at a high level, leading to a 3-2 record through five games.
The future still remains a significant priority for the Raiders though, and they recently secured part that future by signing tight end Darren Waller to a three-year contract extension. Although the terms of that deal are undisclosed, it is rumored to be worth approximately $27 million.
Waller signed the extension on Wednesday evening, and the team’s official Twitter put out a video of him putting the pen to paper and expressing his excitement to be remaining with the Raiders long-term:

Waller seemed overwhelmed in the video, stating that he never imagined a moment like this. Waller’s journey to this point has been rocky, to say the least. He has missed over an entire season due to drug-related suspensions but has finally found himself on solid ground after joining the Raiders.
He has quickly become a premier tight end in the league and the Raiders clear threat in the air. He and Derek Carr have found chemistry on the field that has led to success on the scoreboard.
While it is exciting to see the Raiders give Waller what he has earned, perhaps the most exciting part is Waller’s commitment to the team. He stated in his message that he is a part of the Raiders family on the team and in the stands.
So far Waller has put up 359 receiving yards on 37 receptions, which both lead the team. Although his stats and contributions are great, many are waiting for Waller to finally record his first touchdown with the team. Hopefully, the Raiders and Waller will accomplish that milestone during the team’s Week 7 matchup against the Green Bay Packers.
