The Oakland Raiders’ storied history in the Bay Area is coming to a close. Although they are not officially moved into their new Las Vegas home, the final home game in Oakland has been completed.
Certainly the outcome was not what Raiders fans hoped for as the team was shutout in the second half of their 20-16 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars. Despite that, the Raiders organization did what they could to show their love for the fans.
One thing that the organization did was to invite a number of former greats to the game, including Marcus Allen and Tim Brown. However, Charles Woodson was the legend who led the charge with his passionate speech thanking the Raider faithful, via the Raiders’ official Twitter:
“Look at all the guys that came back for this moment here today. We understand #RaiderNation. We understand Raider love.”
— Oakland Raiders (@Raiders) December 18, 2019
Woodson and the rest of the former players did what they could to make the final game in Oakland something special, including bringing the stadium into a frenzy as he did so often when playing for the team.
Although the Raiders’ recent years in Oakland have been less than desirable, there in undeniable history at the Oakland-Alameda Couty Coliseum. The Raiders made four Super Bowl appearances in Oakland, winning two of them. To send the team off with some of the players from those teams really helped to make the day a special one.
While the team will be leaving much behind in the city of Oakland, hopefully Las Vegas can be just as special to them. With just two games left in the final season of the Oakland Raiders, hopefully the team can end the season on a strong note to make up for their loss to the Jaguars.
