With all the drastic changes taking place for the Las Vegas Raiders, the immediate future for quarterback Derek Carr has somewhat taken a backseat until Super Bowl Sunday.

According to Ian Rapoport of NFL.com, the Raiders are ready to start talking to Carr about his future with the team involving a contract extension.

Sources say the Raiders are moving forward with Carr at QB and prepared to discuss a contract extension that would keep him in Las Vegas for the foreseeable future. Carr has one year left on his contract, making nearly $20 million.

Although the team has been quiet about Carr’s future leading to speculation that this season could be his last with the franchise, it appears the new regime is sold on trying to make it work with the veteran quarterback.

New head coach Josh McDaniels famously made a name for himself as Tom Brady’s offensive coordinator with the New England Patriots. He even helped turn rookie quarterback Mac Jones into a Pro Bowler this season, which bodes well for the Raiders moving forward as he could be the missing piece to unlock Carr’s true potential under center in Las Vegas.

According to Rapoport, Carr wanted McDaniels in Las Vegas all along.

Sources say Carr’s top choice for a new coach was actually the one the team hired.

So, fortunately, things might be coming together for the Raiders and Carr at the right time. The team can work off the momentum built this season and perhaps add a few more pieces to Carr’s arsenal on offense.

If Carr does sign an extension, it’ll be interesting to see what happens in free agency due to his desire to have former Fresno State teammate Davante Adams in Silver and Black next season.
