Raiders News: Trent Brown Issues Statement In Regards To Domestic Violence Lawsuit

The Oakland Raiders have jumped out to a surprising 3-2 record this season and find themselves only half a game behind the Kansas City Chiefs for first place in the AFC West.

Despite the promising start, the Raiders’ success hasn’t come without some drama along the way. After a turbulent start to his tenure, Antonio Brown was granted his release by the team prior to the regular season.

More recently, offseason free-agent signing Vontaze Burfict was suspended for the remainder of the year for his hit on Indianapolis Colts tight end Jack Doyle in Week 4.

With the Raiders now preparing for a tough road matchup against the Green Bay Packers, they received some more unwanted news that Trent Brown is being sued for domestic violence.

The development came to light on Wednesday, revealing a number of serious accusations against Brown for incidents that took place last March. Brown released a statement on his personal Twitter account, maintaining his innocence:

I am aware that my ex-girlfriend has filed a civil suit against me. I deny the claims. They are false. I believe in the court system where I will clear my name. I will not be making any further comment at this time.

Coming off a Super Bowl victory with the New England Patriots, the Raiders signed Brown to a record-breaking contract that made him the highest-paid offensive lineman in the NFL.

Brown helped shore up the Raiders offensive line by transitioning to right tackle, where he has graded out favorably according to Pro Football Focus and other metrics.

And while Brown has been everything and more for the Raiders on the field, his status with the team will likely depend on the outcome of the lawsuit.

Raiders owner Mark Davis has had a no-tolerance policy for domestic violence in the past, so it will be interesting to see how the situation unfolds. The NFL will also likely investigate the matter, which could lead to a suspension for Brown.
