The Las Vegas Raiders are truly one of the most storied franchises in football history. Originally part of the AFL before joining the NFL in 1970, the Raiders have built a legacy that very few teams in any sport can match.

This season is set to be the franchise’s 65th and the team plans on commemorating this milestone. This includes a new logo that the Raiders recently unveiled to pay homage to their history.

The logo features a shield with two swords going through it and the letters LXV across the middle. In the announcement and unveiling of the logo, the franchise explained what this new logo represents.

“As the Raiders commemorate their 65th season, the logo stands as a testament to resilience and tradition in the world of professional sports. Since their inception in 1960, the Raiders have carved out a storied legacy, becoming synonymous with passion, grit, and an unwavering Commitment to Excellence. Over the decades, the Silver & Black has thrilled fans with countless memorable moments – from historic victories to iconic plays to three Super Bowl championships – that have left an indelible mark on the sport. Beyond the gridiron, the Raiders have fostered a tight-knit community, uniting fans from all walks of life under the banner of Raider Nation.”

The LXV in the middle of the shield represents 65 years of the Raiders’ existence in Roman numerals. The LX represents the 60 years the franchise spent in California, in Oakland and Los Angeles, while the V stands for the last five years the team has been in Las Vegas. The LV is silver over the black shield background, while the X is white.

This patch will presumably be worn throughout the season, and the Raiders have never been a franchise that is shy about celebrating milestones. The team has previously worn patches to commemorate both their 50th and 60th years in existence as well as AFL and NFL milestones.

Richard Seymour to join Tom Brady as minority owner of Raiders

This 65th NFL season should also be witness to some new blood at the top of the Raiders hierarchy. Tom Brady has long been attempting to become a minority owner of the franchise, and now, with some help from a former teammate and Raiders player, that deal should finally go through.

Richard Seymour, a three-time Super Bowl Champion with Brady who also spent his final four seasons with the Raiders, is finalizing a deal to join Brady as a minority owner of the team. Together, the two would own 10.4% of the franchise and the involvement of Seymour is expected to help ease the concerns of other owners about Brady’s initial bid.
