Raiders News: Rodney Hudson Named To PFWA All-AFC Team

Although the Oakland Raiders may be coming off a disappointing 2019 NFL season, center Rodney Hudson continues to add to his impressive resume after being named to the Professional Football Writers of America All-AFC team.

Hudson is coming off yet another spectacular season in Oakland after being named to his third Pro Bowl in four years. This is the second time in his career he has made the PFWA All-AFC team while also earning second-team All-Pro honors for his efforts as the anchor of a much-improved offensive line.

Hudson’s performance was one of the few bright spots on offense for the Raiders in the 2019 campaign. So it should come as no surprise to see that he was their lone representative for PFWA honors.

Oakland made the investment in their offensive line last offseason in an effort to shore up the protection for quarterback Derek Carr. It is safe to say that Hudson managed to provide an immediate return on the three-year, $33.75 million contract extension he signed by serving as a stabilizing factor for this group while they dealt with their fair share of injuries.

Aside from helping do a much better job of keeping Carr clean, Hudson’s efforts paid huge dividends for running back Josh Jacobs. The former No. 24 pick in the 2019 NFL Draft burst onto the season by finishing the year with 1,150 rushing yards and seven touchdowns en route to establishing himself as the frontrunner for NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year honors.

There is no question that the Raiders have a busy offseason ahead of them as they get set to start a new era at Allegiant Stadium following the relocation to Las Vegas. This team still has a number of voids to fill on their roster if they look to kick off the 2020 NFL season in style.

Fortunately, it appears as though the offensive line is in good hands for the foreseeable future with Hudson calling the shots upfront.

Here is the complete PFWA All-AFC offensive team:
