There is no doubt now that Maxx Crosby is one of the best defensive linemen in the entire NFL. One thing that makes the Las Vegas Raiders’ star so tough to deal with is his relentlessness, as he gives maximum effort on every single play, never stops coming, and never backs down from a challenge.
This was on display from the moment Crosby took the practice field for the Raiders. The franchise had just signed Trent Brown to a four-year deal and he was viewed as one of the best at his position in the league, which just made Crosby want to go at him even more.
Crosby recently told this story on an episode of ‘The Rush’ podcast. The Raiders star noted that even the vets didn’t want to go against Brown, but he took on that challenge and after two weeks, he finally got the better of the massive tackle, via RaidersBeat.com:
“When I came in the league all the vets were like ‘I’m not going against him,’” Crosby said on The Rush podcast. “Trent Brown was just paid. He was the highest-paid tackle at the time. The biggest human I have ever seen and I’m like ‘I’ll f—ing go every time.’ I beat him on one rush. It took literally two weeks to beat him. I long-armed the f— out of him and I was like ‘If I die tomorrow… I’ll be happy for the rest of my life. I got past that f—ing mountain.’”
Going at the best in practice is the best way to get better, especially in situations like this. Going against the best pushes players to be better, and that was undoubtedly the case with Crosby, who registered 10 sacks as a rookie and hasn’t looked back since.
Beating Brown on a rush was just the first accomplishment, and now there isn’t a tackle alive who can consistently keep Crosby out of the backfield. And the Raiders are certainly thankful that mindset has never wavered as he has become one of the leaders of this franchise.
