Raiders News: Las Vegas Signing Free Agent Marcus Peters Feels ‘Inevitable’

The Las Vegas Raiders are entering the next step in the process to get ready for the 2023 season as rookies reported to training camp on July 20.

The Raiders made a few moves in the offseason to bolster their roster, though there are definitely still some areas of concern. The Las Vegas secondary in particular sticks out as they don’t have much talent and depth, a weak point that teams were happy to exploit throughout the 2022 campaign.

With that in mind, the Raiders have been pegged as an ideal landing spot for free-agent cornerback Marcus Peters. Peters has spent the past four seasons with the Baltimore Ravens, though he missed the entirety of the 2021 season due to a torn ACL he suffered in practice. Peters would return in Week 2 of the 2022 season and go on to appear and start in 13 games.

Las Vegas met with Peters back in May and although the two sides were unable to reach an agreement on a contract they remained in touch throughout the offseason. Although he remains unsigned, the feeling is that the veteran ultimately ends up with the Silver and Black via Vincent Bonsignore of Las Vegas Review-Journal:

Feels like Marcus Peters to the @Raiders is inevitable.

Peters has been heavily linked to the Raiders for quite some time now and with each passing day that he remains unsigned the likelihood of him landing with them grows. The need for more help at cornerback is obvious, and Peters could step in and immediately start should he sign with them.

The #Raiders will host FA CB Marcus Peters for a visit and workout on Monday, sources say. Las Vegas visited with Peters earlier this spring, now will take another close look before training camp.

In order to sign him, though, Las Vegas will probably need to open up more money as they currently only have about $2.8 million in cap space. Still, given his age and injury history, Peters shouldn’t break the bank, and the team should be able to clear enough for a potential deal.

With veteran players set to report to camp on July 25, a signing would likely happen in the coming days. While nothing is imminent, the situation does bear monitoring.

Josh Jacobs and Raiders fail to agree to long-term deal

While the Peters signing feels inevitable to some, the Raiders took a blow when they were unable to come to an agreement with Josh Jacobs. Jacobs had been holding out for a long-term deal, but that did not come to fruition when the July 17 deadline came to pass.

Now, Las Vegas has to wait and see what their star running back will choose to do.
