Raiders News: Las Vegas ‘Expected’ To Hire Luke Getsy As Offensive Coordinator

The last few days have been a roller coaster ride for the Las Vegas Raiders. The team seemingly had a deal done with former Arizona Cardinals head coach Kliff Kingsbury to become the team’s new offensive coordinator. Unfortunately, somehow, things fell apart at the last moment, and Kingsbury chose to pull out of contract talks.

With Kingsbury pulling out and reportedly the favorite to land the offensive coordinator job with the Washington Commanders under new head coach Dan Quinn, the Raiders have pivoted to another candidate.

According to Jeremy Fowler of ESPN, that candidate has turned out to be former Chicago Bears offensive coordinator Luke Getsy, whom the Raiders are expected to hire to be the offensive coordinator under Antonio Pierce in Las Vegas.

The Las Vegas Raiders are expected to hire Luke Getsy as their next offensive coordinator, sources told ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler late Saturday night. The report comes hours after former Arizona Cardinals coach Kliff Kingsbury removed himself from consideration.

Although there was a lot of excitement surrounding the prospect of bringing in Kingsbury, who has close ties with USC’s superstar Caleb Williams, it simply wasn’t meant to be, and the Raiders brass has wasted no time in finding his replacement.

Getsy will have his work cut out for him in Las Vegas, with Pierce demanding that the new offensive coordinator produce at least 24 points a game, which is no easy feat, especially with a shaky quarterback situation that needs to be figured out before the start of the 2024 campaign.

Aidan O’Connell had his moments as a rookie quarterback for the Raiders but he doesn’t seem like the team’s long-term answer. Veteran Jimmy Garoppolo also couldn’t cut it when he was given the opportunity as the starter to start the season, meaning the team will likely move on from him at some point during the NFL offseason.

The Raiders could go one of two directions at quarterback, with the team either trading up in the upcoming 2024 NFL Draft for one of the studs coming out of college, like Williams, Drake Maye or Jayden Daniels. The other option would be going the veteran route, signing a player like Kirk Cousins, which is an option that the team could explore.

With the coaching staff now seemingly set, the Raiders will get to work on setting up the immediate future, hoping to be competitive right out of the gate next season.
