The Las Vegas Raiders announced that they have brought back free agent offensive lineman Patrick Omameh.
The Raiders made the offensive line a point of emphasis this offseason after cleaning house with the departure of three key members. Although general manager Mike Mayock and head coach Jon Gruden have since filled in the notable voids, it is evident that they were still looking to shore up some quality depth.
Omameh came into the league as an undrafted free agent out of Michigan after earning first-team All-Big Ten honors as a senior. The 6-foot-4, 327-pound offensive lineman is well-traveled going into his ninth season, having made stops with the San Francisco 49ers, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Chicago Bears, Jacksonville Jaguars, New York Giants, and New Orleans Saints.
Omameh began the 2020 campaign with the Raiders and played in six games with the Silver and Black until he was waived. He finished out the year with the Kansas City Chiefs, where he played in one game.
Unlike some new faces, the 31-year-old boasts plenty of quality experience, having started in 58 of 88 career games. This very well could provide Las Vegas with some much-needed assurance along the offensive line behind some of their more unproven options.
Omameh can be considered a bubble player going into training camp and will need to show that he can provide an edge both on and off the field if he hopes to make the active roster. Fortunately, the youthful make-up of this group certainly bodes well for him, given his experience in this league.
The Raiders are now at the officially 90-man roster limit now that Omameh has taken the spot left by defensive end David Irving following his release. Any further additions will now require them to part ways with another current player on the roster.
