The Las Vegas Raiders looked solid in their three-game preseason slate, though they’re still going to face an uphill battle during the 2023 season as the AFC West and the rest of the conference features several Super Bowl contenders.
The Raiders are hoping that a revamped roster will be able to perform much better under Josh McDaniels who enters his second season as the team’s head coach. McDaniels caught flak for how Las Vegas underwhelmed in 2022, though Mark Davis expressed confidence that he is the right man for the job.
McDaniels faces a lot of pressure to get the Raiders back to the playoffs, and he has several win-now pieces to help them get there. With an offense featuring Davante Adams, Josh Jacobs and a new quarterback in Jimmy Garoppolo McDaniels doesn’t have many excuses left.
In fact, betting sites are expecting McDaniels to be the first head coach fired this year.

McDaniels was a well-regarded offensive coordinator during his time with the New England Patriots, though there are definitely still question marks about his ability to lead a team. His first year with Las Vegas resulted in a 6-11 record, and if they achieve a similar record this year, it’s hard to imagine his tenure with the organization lasting much longer.
When scanning the league, it’s difficult to find another head coach who’s facing as much pressure as McDaniels to win. There are certainly owners who are expecting to compete for a Super Bowl, but Davis has to be getting impatient waiting for his team to even make a deep playoff run.
So far, McDaniels has done well to stay even-keeled though it remains to be seen if he’ll be able to start delivering wins.
Colin Cowherd believes Josh McDaniels checks boxes of a good head coach
Despite a failed stint as a head coach for the Denver Broncos, McDaniels was able to rehab his value with the Patriots where he led the offense for more than 10 years. Getting that sort of trust from Bill Belichick and Tom Brady isn’t easy to do, which is why people like Colin Cowherd believe he’s a good head coach who checks important boxes.
