Raiders News: Jon Gruden As ‘Proud’ Of Win Over Colts As Any Win Of Career

Going into Sunday’s Week 4 matchup against the Indianapolis Colts, there wasn’t much for the Oakland Raiders to be positive about.

Not only were they coming off back-to-back losses, but they still have the toughest upcoming schedule in the league and are banged up on both sides of the ball.

The Raiders showed they have the ability to fight through adversity when they defeated the Denver Broncos in Week 1 though, and they proved it again on Sunday with a 31-24 road victory over the Colts to get back to .500 at 2-2.

After the game, an excited Jon Gruden deemed that this one was one of the best he can remember as a coach, via Scott Bair of NBC Sports:

“I’m as proud of this win as any one I’ve ever had before,” Gruden said after the win.

The Raiders have been counted out by a lot of people this season after Antonio Brown was released and they have been dealt with a handful of other injuries. That is why Gruden believes the win over the Colts was so big, praising his team for their effort:

“I think it’s a tough schedule that we have, honestly,” Gruden said. “There are a lot of difficult things that we’ve gone through. You show up here today, and the guy you’re counting on to play the Z-position doesn’t play, your middle backer gets thrown out. There are plenty of reasons to — your right guard goes in, your right tackle goes in — there are a lot of reasons to fold your tent. There are a lot of reasons to start making excuses, but our guys were really resilient and tough mentally, and those are components that I think that are going to serve us well as we continue to build our team. I’m really proud of these guys.”

Things don’t get any easier for the Raiders in Week 5 as they travel to London to take on the Chicago Bears, who have won three straight games and have perhaps the best defense in the league led by Khalil Mack.

It seems that the team is buying into what Gruden and the coaching staff are teaching them though, so maybe they can pull of another upset and head into the bye week on a high note.
