Raiders News: Derek Carr Reacts To Making 2023 Pro Bowl Games Roster

Super Bowl LVII is set, with the Kansas City Chiefs set to take on the Philadelphia Eagles in what is sure to be an exciting game.

While all eyes and attention will be on the upcoming Super Bowl matchup between two great teams, fans will also be treated to a new format for the Pro Bowl. The 2023 Pro Bowl Games will take place over the course of an entire weekend and feature a skills competition and flag football games.

Teams for the NFC and AFC have been released, though there have been some changes to the rosters. The starting quarterbacks for the AFC were originally Patrick Mahomes, Josh Allen, and Joe Burrow. However, replacements needed to be found as Mahomes will be playing in Super Bowl LVII, while Allen and Burrow decided to opt out of the new Pro Bowl format.

In a shocking turn of events, Las Vegas Raiders quarterback Derek Carr was named as one of the replacements along with Trevor Lawrence and Tyler Huntley. Carr had a funny reaction when the news broke he would be on the 2023 Pro Bowl Games roster via his Twitter account:

Well… maybe this invitation got lost in the mail from past seasons but I’m going back to pro bowl #4. See you soon Vegas!

It’s ironic that Carr is being named to the Pro Bowl team considering he and the Raiders are in the middle of parting ways with each other. Carr was controversially benched at the end of the 2022 season and has been open about his desire to move on and find a new home for next season. Perhaps it’s fitting that the Pro Bowl festivities are set to take place in Las Vegas, though, as this will give Carr a way to say goodbye on his own terms.

Carr’s 2022 campaign was marred with inconsistency despite having legitimate offensive weapons in players like Davante Adams and Josh Jacobs. For the year, Carr recorded 3,522 passing yards and 24 touchdowns but did throw 14 interceptions. He and Josh McDaniels should be the primary reasons to blame for the offense’s struggles, though now they are both looking at fresh starts.

For longtime Silver and Black fans, seeing Carr leave might be bittersweet considering how much he openly expressed loving playing for the Raiders. While all good things come to an end, it should be cool for fans to see Carr go out in the Pro Bowl.
