There has been plenty of speculation regarding the Las Vegas Raiders’ plans under center so far this offseason.

The Raiders have two potential assets at their disposal under center between Derek Carr and Marcus Mariota. This has led to rumors regarding the team possibly swinging a deal for Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson.

There is no question that the prospect of Wilson coming to Las Vegas would put the rest of the league on notice going into the 2021 NFL season. However, not everyone is enamored with the idea of parting ways with Carr.

According to Vincent Bonsignore of the Las Vegas Review-Journal, fullback Alec Ingold feels Carr is more than capable of leading the Raiders to a Super Bowl.

“I remember my first season, Derek came and spoke to all the rookies, and all he talked about was the singular goal of making the Super Bowl,” Ingold said. “That was my first impression of Derek Carr. From that day moving forward, that is all I’ve seen from him in how he works and how he plays and how he performs.

Ingold added that his singular focus on winning a championship makes him the ideal candidate to take them to the next level.

“That’s his mentality and that’s all he cares about. And I think that same mentality runs throughout this locker room. Not just in the belief we have in Derek, but the confidence that we are a lot closer than people realize. The bottom line is, I believe Derek can take this team and this organization to a Super Bowl.”

Ingold’s comments are certainly understandable, considering Carr is coming off the best year of his career. He threw for 4,103 yards, 27 touchdowns, and nine interceptions while the offense scored the 10th most points in the NFL.

Unfortunately, Carr’s efforts were not enough to prevent another second-half meltdown that resulted in the Raiders missing the playoffs at 8-8. While plenty of blame has been seemingly put on his shoulders, it is safe to say that the team’s shortcomings on defense will continue to keep them out of the playoff picture if they are not addressed this offseason.

Although Mariota’s fate may be sealed, rumors indicate that Carr likely will not be going anywhere unless a team offers up a blockbuster deal. Regardless, the news that Wilson is willing to waive his no-trade clause to play for the Raiders still leaves some uncertainty.
