Finding the right offensive coordinator for head coach Antonio Pierce is extremely important, and the Las Vegas Raiders are exploring all options to find the right fit.

With Pierce’s former head coach, Tom Coughlin, consulting in the search, the Raiders have interviewed a number of different candidates with different backgrounds and experiences. And their work is far from done as the front office has recently conducted another interview and has one more set up for today as well.

According to Albert Breer of Monday Morning Quarterback, the Raiders interviewed former Cleveland Browns offensive coordinator Alex Van Pelt yesterday and will interview former Chicago Bears offensive coordinator Luke Getsy today:

The Raiders interviewed ex-Browns OC Alex Van Pelt for their offensive coordinator job yesterday, and will interview ex-Bears OC Luke Getsy for it today, per sources. Both guys have play-calling experience—and they worked together in Green Bay.

Van Pelt spent the last four seasons as offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach in Cleveland, and his being let go was a bit of a surprise. The Browns finished 10th in the league in points scored despite having to cycle through four different quarterbacks this season. He also was previously offensive coordinator for the Buffalo Bills and has spent time with the Green Bay Packers and Cincinnati Bengals.

Getsy spent the last two seasons in Chicago where the Bears struggled to find consistency offensively as quarterback Justin Fields grew into the quarterback position. While he did show improvement under Getsy, the Bears decided to move on.

The Raiders have brought in a number of candidates including former Steelers quarterbacks coach Mike Sullivan and former Cardinals head coach Kliff Kingsbury. Los Angeles Rams quarterbacks coach Zac Taylor is also believed to be in the mix for the position as well. But no matter how many people are interviewed it is imperative for the Raiders to make sure they pick the right guy to bring out the best in this offense.

Mark Davis hopes Champ Kelly remains with Raiders as assistant general manager

One person who may be in attendance for these interviews is Champ Kelly. The Raiders’ assistant general manager took on the GM job in an interim position but was not selected to get the job full-time as the Raiders went with Tom Telesco.

But owner Mark Davis wants Kelly to remain with the organization in his previous assistant GM role and is hopeful he will. Davis added that he has great respect for Kelly and feels he brings a lot to the Raiders.
