Raiders Highlights: Derek Carr Finds Hunter Renfrow For Game-Winning Touchdown & Defense Comes Up Big In Win Over Lions

After an extended road trip in which they lost their final two games, the Oakland Raiders returned home in Week 9 and defeated the Detroit Lions, 31-24, to improve to 4-4 on the year.

Derek Carr has been under some scrutiny for his play in recent weeks, but he put together perhaps his best game of the season in the victory. The quarterback completed 20 of 31 passes for 289 yards and two touchdowns, one to rookie tight end Foster Moreau and the other to rookie wide receiver Hunter Renfrow.

Renfrow’s touchdown ended up being the game-winner as Carr found him from nine yards out to break a 24-24 tie with just over two minutes remaining. Renfrow finished with six catches for 54 yards and the touchdown.

While the offense was great down the stretch for Oakland, their defense came up just as big to seal the victory. They had trouble stopping Matthew Stafford and the Lions offense in the first half, but they did come up with two turnovers on a fumble recovery by Maurice Hurst and then an interception in the endzone by Daryl Worley.

The biggest stop of the day came on the final drive though. Stafford got his team in a position to score and had fourth-and-goal from the 1-yard line with eight seconds left. The defensive line got a nice pass-rush on Stafford and he was forced to throw to Kenny Golladay quickly, but Karl Joseph was there to break up the pass to seal the victory.

Raiders rookie running back Josh Jacobs also had a solid day in the win. He carried the ball 28 times for 120 yards and two touchdowns, good for his third 100-yard rushing game in his last four contests. He is also over 740 yards rushing for the season, which breaks Marcus Allen’s rookie franchise record.
