The Las Vegas Raiders’ offensive struggles were on full display in a 24-0 loss to the New Orleans Saints in Week 8. It marked the first time since 2014 an opponent shut the team out.

The Raiders were once again without Darren Waller, who is still making his way back from a hamstring injury sustained during the first half of a Week 5 matchup against the Kansas City Chiefs.

Waller had been a limited participant in practice throughout the week but ultimately wasn’t healthy enough to suit up. “I have no updates about today,” Raiders head coach Josh McDaniels said of Waller’s status.

“I know they were over there working out at IMG today. Like I said, he practiced last week some in a limited capacity. We’re trying to make a smart decision. Those things can be a little tricky.

“We have a handful of guys that are dealing with soft tissue issues. If you push them back too early, we’ve all seen what can happen, and then all of a sudden, you’re missing another month.

“So, we just err on the side of caution as best we can and try to make sure that the players are healthy and ready for the load that we would like them to play in the game.”

While Waller missed Sunday’s game against the Saints, he conceivably could be in position to return for this week’s contest with the Jacksonville Jaguars if he continues making progress.

Waller has appeared in only five games this season, catching 16 of his 24 targets for 175 yards and one touchdown. The 30-year-old was rumored to be a potential trade candidate, but the deadline passed without a deal, and he will now look to provide the offense with a spark when he gets back on the field.
