Los Angeles Rams star Puka Nacua has been in the news for the wrong reasons this offseason as he is dealing with a lawsuit after an incident during New Year’s Eve in which he allegedly bit a woman.
Nacua has been taking the right steps to better himself as he entered himself into a rehab facility and has been seeing a therapist. Now back with his team for OTAs, the All-Pro discussed how he is doing, via Stu Jackson of TheRams.com:
“I’m doing great. It’s been a busy offseason, but it’s been good,” Nacua said Thursday, speaking to reporters for the first time this offseason. “Nice to be back in football and be around a bunch of the guys.”
Nacua also expressed appreciation to the Rams organization and his teammates for the support they have given him:
“I’ve been really grateful for the support from the organization, especially my teammates. People reaching out at different times of the offseason, just, one, checking out how I’m doing, see how my family’s doing with my son growing up as he is,” Nacua said. “So I’m just really grateful for the people around me and in this organization.”
Nacua also opened up about the challenges he has faced as a young athlete and how before this offseason, he previously would have been afraid to ask for help:
“There’s always been good people around me, but it was always something that was like, man, the wrongdoings or the mistakes I made felt like it was like an internal thing, and never allowing that to really express,” Nacua said. “I like to think of myself as a pretty happy, outgoing guy enjoying life, but there also were some of the difficulties of just being in this professional sport, and just throughout my entire life.”
It seems that Nacua is taking the right steps to better himself both as a person and football player, which is great news for him and the Rams going into the 2026 season.
The 25-year-old is due for a massive contract extension, and it seems he realized off-the-field issues could potentially get in the way of that and doesn’t want to jeopardize his future in L.A.
Puka Nacua extension could ‘take a while’
According to recent reports, the Rams may not be in a rush to extend Nacua’s contract. It may be something they revisit during training camp, which is typically when the Rams get a lot of their extensions done.
