Shohei Ohtani continued his powerful stretch with a home run in his fifth consecutive game, tying a franchise record, and Freddie Freeman delivered a game-winning two-run single in the ninth inning to give the Los Angeles Dodgers a 4-3 victory over the Minnesota Twins on Wednesday night at Dodger Stadium.
The Dodgers entered the matchup as moderate favorites with moneyline odds around -160, while the Twins were listed as underdogs near +135. The projected total for runs was 8.5, a line matched in the game’s final moments when Los Angeles completed its comeback.
Ohtani scored in the first inning with a solo home run to center field, his 37th of the season, which leads the National League. The blast extended his home run streak to five consecutive games, tying a club record previously matched by Max Muncy, Joc Pederson, Adrian Gonzalez, Matt Kemp, Shawn Green, and Hall of Famer Roy Campanella.
Dodgers right-hander Tyler Glasnow, in his third start since returning from a shoulder injury, turned in a dominant outing. He allowed one run on three hits and struck out 12 across seven innings, matching his highest strikeout total since June 9, 2024, when he fanned 12 against the New York Yankees. Glasnow’s lone blemish came in the third inning when Royce Lewis, a Southern California native, hit a solo home run to tie the game at 1-1.
Chris Paddack countered with a strong start for Minnesota, surrendering one run on four hits over six innings. He struck out eight without issuing a walk, keeping the Twins within reach until the later innings.
Los Angeles regained the lead in the seventh when Freeman scored on a bases-loaded single to right field by Tommy Edman, making it 2-1. However, Minnesota responded in the top of the eighth. Dodgers reliever Kirby Yates walked the first three batters he faced, forcing manager Dave Roberts to bring in Alex Vesia. The left-hander induced a double play from Willi Castro that allowed the tying run to score, and pinch-hitter Harrison Bader followed with an infield single that plated the go-ahead run, giving the Twins a 3-2 lead.
The Dodgers mounted their comeback in the bottom of the ninth against Twins reliever Griffin Jax. After Jax recorded the first two outs, Mookie Betts singled, and Ohtani was intentionally walked. Esteury Ruiz then drew a walk to load the bases for Freeman, who lined a two-run single into left field. The ball dropped in front of a diving Bader, allowing Betts and Ohtani to score and giving Los Angeles a walk-off win.
Lewis was a bright spot for Minnesota, finishing 2-for-2 with a home run, a double, and a walk. Despite the effort, the Twins dropped the series finale and head home for their next matchup.
Minnesota will return to Target Field to host the Washington Nationals on Friday, with Zebby Matthews (1-2, 6.26 ERA) scheduled to start. The Dodgers will travel to Boston for a series against the Red Sox, where Emmet Sheehan (10-1, 4.41 ERA) is expected to start Friday’s opener.
