The Oilers and Maple Leafs are looking to move on from Darnell Nurse and Morgan Rielly
Jay On SC: Pierre LeBrun, when asked last night, what’s the latest on Toronto Maple Leafs defenseman Morgan Rielly and Edmonton Oilers defenseman Darnell Nurse?
** NHLRumors.com transcription
Onrait: “Okay. How about our mutual buddy Darren Dreger tweeting Tuesday night that Morgan Rielly has given the Maple Leafs four Western-based teams that he might consider waiving his no-movement clause for. The Oilers also need to sort out the Darnell Nurse trade request. Do you see a solution to either of these two situations, Pierre, anytime soon?”
LeBrun: “I’d say that, I’d say that Morgan Rielly might move before Darnell Nurse does, but certainly all efforts are being undertaken right now in both those cases.
The Edmonton Oilers, I’m told, are spending the majority of their time right now trying to figure that out. Darnell Nurse gave the Oilers a short list of teams to work with. I don’t know if that list needs to be expanded or not. But certainly, you know, as of this, as of night, I don’t think they’re anywhere close yet on a nurse trade, but a lot of conversations happening on that front in Edmonton.
NHL Rumors: The Vancouver Canucks Still Looking to Change Their Roster
In terms of Morgan Rielly, you know, as Dregs noted, the teams are all out West that he’s willing to go to. I think San Jose and Anaheim are among those teams. I like the fit in both those cases, by the way. In terms of his experience for San Jose.
- Howard Berger: (Wednesday) “Hearing, unofficially, that Rielly will go to San Jose (with some salary retention) for a middle-round draft pick. His stock has fallen and the #Leafs have made it clear his time in #Toronto is over. The #Sharks have been interested for a while. Again, nothing confirmed.”
And Anaheim, geez, we know John Carlson is going to market. They gave up a first-round pick for John Carlson at deadline. They’re losing him for nothing unless they do a sign-and-trade with John Carlson. Jacob Trouba hasn’t been re-signed yet, he might go to market. Radko Gudas hasn’t been re-signed yet. So the Ducks have some holes potentially on the fence there. That’s why I don’t mind the fit there either.
But we’ll see, and you know again eventually if Morgan Rielly isn’t moved in the next week or two, does he expand his list to help John Chayka and Maple Leafs find a new home, so developing situations for sure.”
