Could the Anaheim Ducks buy low on a couple UFAs if they move out salary?

Anthony Di Marco of Daily Faceoff: (mailbag) The Anaheim Ducks have just over $9 million in projected salary cap space to fit in Cutter Gauthier‘s deal. They’ll need to move some salary out with Alex Killorn, Chris Kreider and Frank Vatrano the talked about likely candidates. If they move out a couple of those salaries, they could look to fill those roster spots by buying low on a couple UFAs who remain unsigned, mainly Vladimir Tarasenko and Eeli Tolvanen.

Are the San Jose Sharks about to become a destination?

OverDrive: Mike Johnson, when asked if the San Jose Sharks are now a destination for top players to want to go play with.

Kara Wagland: “Seen as you brought up Connor McDavid, and I’m getting crapped all over online for saying that McDavid might just choose to go to San Jose in a couple years. Looking at how San Jose has revamped their blue line, they’ve locked up Macklin. How attractive is San Jose, if you’re a superstar, to go and land in that spot?

NHL Rumors: Will Connor Hellbuyck be on the Winnipeg Jets to Start the Season?

Johnson: “Well, I mean, I think the attraction is Celebrini. It is the market. It is the lifestyle. It is the, you know, the area of the world that, that’s in. Wags, I’m not sure that, you know, the, the defensemen, whether it was Darnell Nurse, Jacob Trouba, those are not guys that I would look at as a player and say, ‘They got those two. Sign me up for a Cup run.’ Like , they’re not there with those guys.

But they do have lots of talent, lots of money, and whether it’s Matthews or McDavid or any sort of superstar player that could pair up with Celebrini. That would be a really nice transitional partner if you’re going to go from being, you know, in your 30s to your mid to late 30s. Where you’re still good, but maybe not the best in the league.

Yeah, I think there’s a lot of things to be bullish about in San Jose. They’re not there yet, but Celebrini is such a massive start. The same way guys want to come play with McDavid. The same way guys want to come play with Matthews. Is, you know, the top players draw other top players. And Celebrini getting paid like, and has already played like a top player, with the presumption that he will continue to get better. Which is a scary thought because he’s already one of the best in the world.”
