NFL Trade Rumors: Raiders Trade Kicker Eddy Piñeiro To Bears

The last time the Oakland Raiders and Chicago Bears made a trade, the sports world stopped. Former NFL Defensive Player of the Year and All-Pro linebacker Khalil Mack was shipped to Chicago for a number of first-round picks.

Now the Raiders and Bears are back again in the rumor mill. The Raiders are reportedly sending kicker Eddy Piñeiro to Chicago for a conditional 2021 draft pick, via ESPN’s Adam Schefter:

Bears traded a 2021 7th-round pick for kicker Eddy Piniero based on these conditions: he has to be on Chicago’s active roster for five games, per source.

Although this trade might not be as groundbreaking as the former, it certainly is interesting. The incoming 2021 seventh-round pick will remain with the Raiders as long as Piñeiro remains healthy and makes the team. Piñeiro saw no playing time during his first and only year with the Raiders and remained on the IR for the duration of the season.

The Bears were an average kicking team last season, making 23 of their 30 field goal attempts behind kicker Cody Parkey. The Raiders were tied for 12th most field goals after making 27 of their 32 attempts.

Piñeiro didn’t pick up football until his senior year of high school so he received no scholarship offers. After a strong tryout with the University of Alabama, he ended up as a standout at the University of Florida.

Despite making 38 of his 43 field goal attempts in his two collegiate years, Piñeiro went undrafted in the 2018 NFL Draft. He signed with the Raiders as an undrafted free agent on May 3, 2018.

Unfortunately for him, Daniel Carlson had one of the Raiders’ best kicking seasons ever, making 16 of his 17 attempts, which made Piñeiro expendable.
