When it comes to discussing who is the best quarterback of all time, there are several names that could enter the equation. Joe Montana, Dan Marino, Brett Favre, and John Elway, are just some of the quality quarterbacks to have played the game. However, there are two names that stand above the rest. One of which has recently retired and the other is still playing the game.

Peyton Manning

The first is Peyton Manning. Manning’s career spanned from 1998 to 2015. Manning began his career with the Indianapolis Colts playing from 1998 through 2011. After taking a year off to recover from a neck injury, Manning concluded his career with the Denver Broncos, playing four seasons until his retirement in 2015.

At the time of writing, he is first in passing touchdowns of all-time and second all-time in passing yards. Manning also won five MVP trophies during his incredible career.

Having started his journey to the top of the game in 1988, it was a time when quarterbacks stopped calling their own plays. That didn’t seem to make any difference to Manning and in the mid, to late 2000’s he called many plays at the line.

Manning would assess what the opposition defense was doing and call plays appropriately in relation to what he saw. This included dummy calls and they often fooled the opposition as they attempted to try and predict what Manning was going to do with the ball.

If there was the slightest hint the opposition had guessed what the play was going to be in, Manning had the ability to switch the play up, often at the last second. Manning managed to win two Super Bowls, but his overall playoff record may be what loses him the battle with Tom Brady as the best quarterback of all time.

Tom Brady

Brady is still active in the NFL has started playing in 2000. For anyone looking to place bets on the NFL with Bovada, Brady’s team is sure to feature highly as this man is the all-time record holder for the number of wins as a quarterback, currently standing at 219 total career victories. That makes him 34 wins better off than joint second-placed Manning and Montana at the time of writing. Move into the postseason statistics and nobody comes close to Brady’s 30 wins.

Brady ranks third all-time in passing touchdowns and fourth in passing yards. Despite being 41 years old ahead of the 2020 NFL season, Brady continues to play and will only add to his already incredible statistics and records. Current records include most games with two or more touchdown passes, best touchdown to interception ratio in a season, most wins on the road by a quarterback, most wins at home by a quarterback, oldest quarterback to lead the league in passing yards, the oldest player to win NFL MVP, most career passing yards with one team and most Pro Bowl selections.

To date, Brady has five Super Bowl titles to his name. Additionally, he’s a three-time league MVP winner. Having played for New England Patriots up until 2019, Brady made the move to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in March 2020. One thing is clear. There has been no sign of a decline in Brady’s performance levels despite his advancing years.

Some fans may argue Brady is not the most talented quarterback we have ever seen but in terms of the greatest, it’s hard to debate otherwise.
