The third Los Angeles Dodgers Zoom party featured a star-studded collection of current and former players, celebrities and SportsNet LA broadcasters.
Joe Davis, Alanna Rizzo and Justin Turner returned for another virtual chat, and they were joined by a handful of newcomers such as Mookie Betts, Walker Buehler, Eric Gagne and Gavin Lux, among others.
Betts touched base on a number of topics during the event, including his passion for fishing and bowling, while adding that he has enjoyed watching ESPN’s “The Last Dance” — a 10-part documentary chronicling Michael Jordan’s NBA career.
Betts also revealed that he is both eager and nervous to put on a Dodgers uniform for the first time in a regular season game. “I’m super excited,” Betts began.
“I was super nervous in Spring Training, coming in to a new group of guys. But I got comfortable with everyone, and it’s the same game. The guys around me made me comfortable.
“When it’s time to put on the uniform, I’ll definitely be nervous but I know I can look at Belli, look at J.T., Max and those guys. We’re all just hanging out, playing the same game. I think that should relax me. Definitely being in a new city, in a new uniform is going to be pretty cool. I’m looking forward to it.”
While MLB has yet to finalize a plan for the 2020 season, the hope is that one will be agreed upon in the coming days. Team owners recently approved a proposal, which is expected to be sent to the players’ union on Tuesday.
Still relatively new to the Dodgers organization, Betts has already made a strong impression on his teammates. During the first day of full-squad workouts in Spring Training, he delivered an impassioned speech to the clubhouse.
Though the message came with some awkward moments, Joe Kelly revealed that it was important for the 27-year-old to address the team.
Wanting to get the best out of his teammates, Betts additionally developed a system that required players to pay a fee every time a mistake was made during Spring Training workouts and Cactus League games.
